Artists Selected for Residency Opportunity

Announcement

We Are Delighted to Announce the two selected artists for the 3 week residency at Basement Project Space. The Artists were selected through an open call for submissions process.

The two artists are:

Alan James Burns & Monique Besten


Alan James Burns is a video installation artist living and working in Cavan and Dublin. Burns graduated with a 1st class honours BA in Fine Art from DIT in 2008 and his recent activities include: Generation – Project Brand New and Bealtaine Festival, Project Art Centre, May 2009. Residency at Cyland Media Arts Lab, National Centre for Contemporary Art, St. Petersburg, Russia. 2009. www.alan-burns.com

Monique Besten
Monique Besten’s work traverses installation, video and performance. Besten holds a B.A. in Fine Art, M.A. in History and currently lives and works in Amsterdam. Recent activity includes: Art project & Group exhibition New Riddles & Constellations I, II, III & IV, Amsterdam & Kolderveen (NL), 2004 – ongoing. Solo exhibition Now Here, At Home Gallery, Šamorín (SK) 2007. www.moniquebesten.nl.

We are very excited to be hosting and facilitating these two artists to develop a new body of work in response to the Art Trail 2009 theme ‘Rediscovering Locality’

The Residency begins on the 23rd October until the 12th of November and they will be exhibiting their work at the Basement Project Space as part of the Art Trail 2009 festival which is running from the 13th of November until the 22nd of November. And the official opening of this exhibition will be held on Sunday the 15th November @ 5pm – 7pm
